Welsh slate has evolved over the years from being mainly a building material, to a versatile product which can be used to create bespoke gifts and items for the home. The rustic and natural feel of slate looks great in any kind of home, from a historic stone dwelling to a more modern contemporary home.
All our products are Hand Crafted in the Gwendraeth Valley, using the best quality Welsh Slate resourced from Blaenau Ffestiniog in North Wales. The slate is approximately 500 million years old and made up of the compression of clay over time from movement of the tectonic places tha formed the welsh mountains. Llechwedd slate is known as blue/grey. It is dark in colour and due to its rustic nature, there may be slight variation of colour and texture which often leave markings.
There may also be iron pyrites which can give a gold colour also known as fool's gold, all these variations add to the subtlety of the products natural beauty. We choose to use Welsh slate because it is a rightly renowned as a smoother, longer lasting stone than any of the other forms of slate that are now imported into Britain, which also assists the local economy and environment. Our products are not mass-produced; they are individually made by hand and finished using a colour enhancer which is suitable for food preparation surfaces, this enables us to achieve a high quality finish that intensifies the natural grain of this beautiful raw material.
